If the self-clean function on your Morphy Richards MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner will not start, stops early or does not clean as expected, follow the checks below.
Self-cleaning starts with the cleaner switched off, upright on its storage base. Press and hold the Mode button for approximately three seconds. The cycle takes approximately one minute.
Applies to: MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner, model 740002. Check the rating label on your appliance to confirm the model.
Before you start
Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger before removing components or clearing debris.
Keep the roller, roller cover, tanks and filters fitted during normal self-cleaning. Keep hands, hair, clothing and tools away from moving parts, and stay with the cleaner throughout the cycle.
If you notice smoke, a burning smell, excessive heat or visible electrical damage, stop using or charging the cleaner and contact Customer Support. Do not recreate the issue for a video.
1. Check the cleaner’s position
- Make sure the cleaner is switched off.
- Disconnect the charging lead.
- Move the handle fully upright into the park position.
- Place the cleaner securely on its storage base.
Do not attempt normal self-cleaning with the handle tilted into the floor-cleaning position or with the cleaner directly on the floor.
2. Hold the correct button
Press and hold the Mode button, rather than the On/Off button, for approximately three seconds.
A quick press is not enough to start self-cleaning. Once the cycle starts, allow it to run for approximately one minute.
Do not remove components while the cycle is running.
3. Check the battery charge
If the battery is low, recharge the cleaner using the supplied charger or a replacement supplied or approved by Morphy Richards for model 740002.
A full charge takes approximately 4–6 hours. Do not leave the product unattended while charging.
Disconnect the charger before trying self-cleaning again.
If the display does not respond or the battery percentage does not increase during charging, use the “Not charging” guide available through our MRX Complete Pro 740002 support hub.
4. Check the tanks, filters and roller
With the cleaner switched off and disconnected from the charger:
- Check that the clean water tank contains water and its cap is securely closed. Do not use hot water.
- Refit the clean water tank until it clicks into place.
- Empty and rinse the dirty water tank.
- Check that the float moves freely.
- Check that the filters are clean and correctly assembled.
- Allow any washed sponge filter to dry fully before refitting.
- Check that the roller is securely fitted and the roller cover clicks into place.
- Refit the dirty water tank securely.
Never operate the cleaner without its filters installed.
5. If the cycle runs but the roller stays dry
A cycle that starts but does not wet the roller may indicate a water-delivery problem.
Check that the clean water tank contains water and is securely fitted. Inspect the tank outlet for visible debris or damage, but do not insert tools into the valve or dismantle it.
Use the “Not releasing water or roller staying dry” guide available through our MRX Complete Pro 740002 support hub.
When contacting our team, explain whether the roller becomes wet:
- During normal floor cleaning.
- During self-cleaning.
- During neither function.
Do not run repeated cycles if water is not being released.
6. If the cycle runs but dirt remains
Self-cleaning helps with routine care. It does not remove every piece of hair, thread or stubborn debris, so remaining dirt does not necessarily mean the function has failed.
With the cleaner switched off and disconnected from the charger:
- Remove the roller cover using its release lever.
- Lift the lever at the left-hand end of the roller and remove it.
- Clear tangled hair, threads and visible debris.
- Wash the roller and cover under running water.
- Empty and rinse the dirty water tank and lid.
- Clean the mesh and sponge filters.
- Allow the sponge filter to dry fully before refitting.
- Reassemble all components securely before further use.
Allow the roller to dry before refitting if the cleaner will not be used immediately.
Do not immerse the cleaning head, cleaner body or electrical parts in water. Avoid solvents, abrasive materials, hard brushes and metallic or sharp cleaning tools.
7. If the cycle stops early
A cycle lasting approximately one minute may have completed normally.
If it stops much sooner:
- Note the battery percentage and any display symbol or message.
- Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger.
- Check the roller for tangled hair or trapped debris.
- Check that the tanks and filters are clean and correctly fitted.
If the cleaner has also stopped during normal floor cleaning, its overheating protection may have activated. Allow it to cool naturally for approximately 1–2 hours and complete the cleaning and blockage checks before trying again.
Further guidance is available under “Keeps stopping or cutting out” in our MRX Complete Pro 740002 support hub.
If the cycle stops early again after these checks, stop and contact Customer Support rather than repeatedly restarting it.
Still having trouble?
Contact our Customer Support team and include:
- Your model and serial number.

- Whether normal floor cleaning still works.
- The battery percentage and any display symbol or message.
- The checks completed.
If safe to record, include a short video showing the cleaner upright on its storage base, the display and what happens when you hold the Mode button for approximately three seconds. Keep all components fitted.
Our team may provide specific instructions for additional diagnostic checks. Do not run the cleaner with components removed unless directed under an approved support procedure.
We’ll review the information and advise on the next steps.
