If your Morphy Richards MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner leaves excess water on the floor or collects very little dirty water, follow the checks below.
Water pick-up can be affected by cleaning technique, a full dirty water tank, blocked filters or trapped debris.
Applies to: MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner, model 740002. Check the rating label on your appliance to confirm the model.
Before you start
Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger before removing tanks, filters, the roller or its cover, or checking for blockages.
Keep fingers, hair, loose clothing and tools away from moving parts. Do not run the cleaner without its filters fitted.
If you believe the cleaner may be unsafe, stop using it and contact Customer Support rather than carrying out these checks.
1. Use steady forward and backward passes
Use even, controlled movements so the cleaner has time to wash the floor and collect dirty water.
- Push the cleaner forwards over a strip of floor.
- Pull the cleaner backwards along the same strip.
- Use the Mode button to select Rapid Suction mode for the backward pass.
- Start the next strip with a slight overlap.
- Repeat with steady forward and backward movements.
The modes cycle through Low, High and Rapid Suction. Check the selected mode rather than assuming one button press will always select Rapid Suction.
If excess water remains, make another steady pass using Rapid Suction mode.
Avoid stepping on the wet floor. Switch the cleaner off when stationary or not in use, and place it on its storage base when taking a break.
2. Empty and check the dirty water tank
A full tank or obstructed float can affect water collection.
- Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger.
- Remove and empty the dirty water tank. Do not allow water to exceed the MAX mark.
- Remove the lid and filter assembly.
- Rinse the tank and lid thoroughly with clean water.
- Check that the float is free from debris and moves freely.
- Reassemble the tank after completing the filter checks below.
3. Clean and dry the filters
Blocked filters can reduce suction.
- Remove debris from the mesh filter.
- Rinse the mesh filter thoroughly with clean water.
- Remove the sponge filter from its holder.
- Clear any trapped dirt and rinse the sponge filter thoroughly.
- Allow the sponge filter to dry fully before refitting.
- Reassemble the lid and filter components correctly.
- Fit the bottom of the dirty water tank first, then push the upper part into place until it clicks.
Do not operate the cleaner without the filters installed.
4. Clean and refit the roller and cover
Hair, threads and debris around the roller can affect cleaning performance.
- With the cleaner switched off, disconnected from the charger and in its upright position, remove the roller cover using its release lever.
- Lift the lever at the left-hand end of the roller and remove the roller.
- Remove trapped hair, threads and debris.
- Clean the roller and cover under running water.
- Refit the roller by inserting the end without the lever first, then pressing the lever end into position.
- Align the roller cover with the slots and press it into place until it clicks.
If you will not use the cleaner immediately after cleaning, allow the roller to dry before refitting.
5. Check the accessible suction inlet for blockages
Hair, fluff and other debris can obstruct the suction pathway and reduce water pick-up.
- Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger.
- Inspect the accessible inlet around the floor-cleaning head.
- Check the elbow connection behind the head for visible trapped debris.
- Gently remove accessible debris using the supplied cleaning brush where it can reach.
The arrow shows the elbow connection to inspect for visible trapped debris.
Do not force tools into the opening, push debris further inside or dismantle the connection.
If a blockage cannot be removed safely from the accessible area, stop and contact Customer Support.
6. Check for excessive foam
The manual warns that cleaning agents producing excessive foam can affect the cleaner’s operation.
Follow the manual’s cleaning-solution guidance and the detergent manufacturer’s dosing instructions. Do not add extra detergent in an attempt to improve cleaning performance.
If you notice excessive foam:
- Switch the cleaner off.
- Empty and rinse the dirty water tank.
- Check that the cleaning solution and amount used follow the instructions.
- Correct the solution mixture before testing again.
Do not use hot water in the clean water tank.
7. Reassemble and test the cleaner
Before switching on, check that the tanks, filters, roller and cover are correctly fitted.
- Disconnect the cleaner from its charger.
- Tilt the handle backwards into the working position.
- Switch on and test a small area using steady forward and backward passes.
- Select Rapid Suction mode for the return pass.
- Check whether dirty water collects in the tank and whether less water remains on the floor.
The cleaner cannot be switched on in its upright position and does not operate while charging.
If the roller stays dry throughout cleaning, tell our team. This may indicate a water-supply issue rather than a water pick-up issue.
