If your Morphy Richards MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner sounds louder than usual, rattles or makes an unfamiliar noise, follow the checks below.
The motor, suction and rotating roller produce sound during normal operation. However, a new or persistent noise should be checked, particularly if cleaning performance has also changed.
Applies to: MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner, model 740002. Check the rating label on your appliance to confirm the model.
Before you start
Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger before removing components, inspecting openings or clearing debris.
If you notice smoke, a burning smell, excessive heat, unusual swelling or visible electrical damage, do not use or charge the cleaner. Contact Customer Support rather than carrying out further tests.
Do not open the cleaner body or dismantle the cleaning head.
1. Note when the noise happens
Think about what you noticed before switching the cleaner off:
- Does the noise begin as soon as the cleaner starts?
- Does it happen only in a particular mode?
- Does it appear to come from the roller or cleaning head?
- Does it happen during self-cleaning?
- Has water pick-up or roller movement changed?
- Is the noise accompanied by vibration or the cleaner stopping?
The sound may change between cleaning modes. Grinding, scraping, repeated clicking or strong vibration should be investigated before continuing.
Do not restart the cleaner solely to identify the source of a severe noise.
2. Check the accessible inlet and elbow connection
- Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger.
- Inspect the accessible suction inlet around the floor-cleaning head.
- Check the elbow connection behind the head for visible trapped debris.
- Gently remove accessible debris using the supplied cleaning brush where it can reach.
The arrow shows the elbow connection to inspect for visible trapped debris
Do not force tools into openings, push debris further inside or dismantle the connection.
If you cannot safely reach or remove a blockage, stop and contact Customer Support.
3. Empty and clean the dirty water tank
- Remove and empty the dirty water tank. Do not allow water to exceed the MAX mark.
- Remove the lid and filter assembly.
- Rinse the tank and lid thoroughly.
- Check that the float is free from debris and moves freely.
- Inspect the tank and lid for visible damage.
Complete the filter checks below before reassembling.
4. Clean and dry the filters
- Remove debris from the mesh filter and rinse it with clean water.
- Remove the sponge filter from its holder.
- Clear trapped dirt and rinse the sponge filter thoroughly.
- Allow the sponge filter to dry fully before refitting.
- Reassemble the filters and dirty water tank lid correctly.
- Fit the bottom of the tank first, then push its upper section into place until it clicks.
Never operate the cleaner without its filters installed.
5. Check the roller for trapped debris
Hair, threads or trapped objects can interfere with roller movement and create noise.
- With the cleaner switched off, disconnected from the charger and upright, remove the roller cover using its release lever.
- Lift the lever at the left-hand end of the roller and remove it.
- Clear hair, threads and debris, including around both ends.
- Inspect the accessible roller compartment for loose debris.
- Clean the removed roller and cover under running water if needed.
Do not immerse the cleaning head or cleaner body in water. Avoid solvents, abrasive materials, hard brushes and metallic or sharp cleaning tools.
If the roller, its ends or the cover are visibly damaged, contact Customer Support before using the cleaner again.
6. Refit the components securely
- Insert the roller end without the lever first.
- Press the lever end into position until it snaps into place.
- Align the roller cover with its slots and press until it clicks.
- Check that both water tanks are securely fitted.
- Check that the dirty water tank lid and filters are correctly assembled.
The sponge filter must be fully dry before refitting. Allow the roller to dry before refitting if the cleaner will not be used immediately.
Do not force a component that will not fit. Check for remaining debris or incorrect alignment. If it still will not fit securely, contact Customer Support.
7. Check whether the noise is resolved
Only test again if there is no visible damage or suspected electrical problem, accessible obstructions have been cleared and all components are correctly fitted.
- Disconnect the charger.
- Tilt the handle backwards into the working position.
- Switch the cleaner on and make a short pass over suitable hard flooring.
- Check whether the unusual noise has stopped.
Keep hands, hair, clothing and tools away from moving parts. Do not test with the roller cover or filters removed, or leave the cleaner running while stationary.
If grinding, scraping, repeated clicking or strong vibration continues, switch off and contact Customer Support. Do not repeatedly restart the cleaner to reproduce the noise.
If the cleaner also stops during use, select “Keeps stopping or cutting out” from our MRX Complete Pro 740002 support hub.
What if the noise happens during self-cleaning?
Self-cleaning involves roller movement and suction, so operating sound during the cycle is expected.
If the sound is new, unusually loud or accompanied by poor roller movement, stop the cycle and switch the cleaner off before inspecting it.
Keep the roller, cover, tanks and filters fitted during normal self-cleaning. Never remove components while the cycle is running.
For further checks, select “The self-clean function isn’t working” from our MRX Complete Pro 740002 support hub.
