If the self-clean function on your Morphy Richards MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner (model 740002) will not start or does not clean as expected, follow the checks below.
1. Check the cleaner’s position
Self-cleaning is started with the appliance switched off, upright in the park position and on its storage base.
- Make sure the handle is fully upright.
- Check that the cleaner is correctly positioned on the base.
- Do not try to start self-cleaning with the handle tilted into the normal cleaning position.
2. Press and hold the Mode button
Press and hold the Mode button for approximately three seconds to start self-cleaning.
A quick press is not enough to activate the cycle. Once started, the cycle takes approximately one minute.
Stay with the cleaner and keep hands and tools away from the cleaning head while it is running.
3. Check the battery charge
If the battery is low, recharge the cleaner using the supplied charger, then try again.
If the display does not respond or the battery does not appear to charge, see our guide: My floor cleaner isn’t charging.
4. Check the tanks and fitted components
Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger before removing components.
Check that:
- The clean water tank contains water and is securely fitted.
- The dirty water tank has been emptied and correctly refitted.
- The filters are clean and correctly assembled.
- The roller and roller cover are securely fitted.
Allow a washed sponge filter to dry fully before refitting.
Keep the roller and cover fitted for normal self-cleaning. Only carry out a roller-off diagnostic test using instructions from our Customer Support team.
5. If the cycle runs but the roller stays dry
If you can hear the self-clean cycle running but the roller does not become wet, check the clean water tank and outlet valve.
Follow our guide: My floor cleaner isn’t releasing water or the roller stays dry.
Let us know whether water is released during normal floor cleaning, during self-cleaning, or neither. This helps us understand the issue.
6. If the cycle runs but dirt remains
Self-cleaning helps with routine care, but hair, threads and stubborn debris may still need to be removed manually.
With the cleaner switched off and disconnected from the charger:
- Remove the roller and cover following the user manual.
- Clear tangled hair, threads and visible debris.
- Wash the roller and cover under running water.
- Empty and rinse the dirty water tank.
- Clean the filters and allow the sponge filter to dry fully.
- Refit all components securely.
Do not immerse the cleaner body or electrical parts in water.
For further guidance, see: How to clean the roller, tanks and filters.
7. If the cycle stops unexpectedly
Note how long the cycle runs before stopping. A cycle lasting approximately one minute may have completed normally.
If it stops much sooner:
- Check the battery charge.
- Check for debris around the roller.
- Note any message or battery percentage shown on the display.
If the appliance has also cut out during normal cleaning, follow our guide: My floor cleaner keeps stopping or cutting out.
Avoid repeatedly restarting a jammed cleaner. If there is smoke, a burning smell or visible electrical damage, stop using it and contact us.
Still having trouble?
Contact our Customer Support team and include:
- Your model and serial number
- Purchase details.
- Whether the cycle will not start, stops early or runs without releasing water.
- Whether normal floor cleaning still works.
- The checks you have completed.
- Any message or battery percentage shown on the display.
If possible, send a short video showing the cleaner upright on its storage base, the display and what happens when you hold the Mode button for approximately three seconds.
Our team may request a separate water-release video with the roller removed. Wait for our instructions before carrying out that diagnostic check.
We’ll review the information and advise on the next steps.
