If your Morphy Richards MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner (model 740002) stops during cleaning or switches off unexpectedly, follow the checks below.
A low battery or overheating protection can cause the cleaner to stop. Cleaning the filters and checking for blockages can help restore normal operation.
1. Check the battery charge
Check the battery percentage on the display. If the battery is low, switch the cleaner off and recharge it using the supplied charger.
Once charged, disconnect the charger before testing again. The cleaner cannot operate while charging.
If it does not appear to charge, see our guide: My floor cleaner isn’t charging.
2. Allow the cleaner to cool down
If the cleaner stops during use, its built-in overheating protection may have activated.
- Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger.
- Leave it to cool for approximately 1–2 hours.
- Complete the cleaning and blockage checks below before restarting.
Avoid repeatedly trying to switch it back on while it is cooling.
3. Empty and clean the dirty water tank
With the cleaner switched off, empty and rinse the dirty water tank and lid. Check that the float moves freely, then refit the components securely.
4. Clean and dry the filters
Remove debris from the mesh and sponge filters and rinse them thoroughly.
Allow the sponge filter to dry fully before refitting. Do not operate the cleaner with its filters removed.
5. Check the inlet and elbow connection for blockages
Hair, fluff and other debris can build up in the suction pathway.
With the cleaner switched off, inspect the accessible inlet and the elbow connection behind the floor-cleaning head.
The arrow shows the elbow connection to inspect for trapped debris.
Gently remove accessible debris using the supplied cleaning brush where it can reach. Do not force tools into the opening, push debris further inside or dismantle the connection.
If you cannot reach a blockage, contact our Customer Support team.
6. Check for hair or threads around the roller
Inspect the roller for tangled hair, threads or other debris that may restrict its movement.
Remove and clean the roller following the user manual, then refit it and its cover securely. Keep hands away from the roller whenever the cleaner is running.
If the roller does not turn, see our guide: The roller isn’t turning.
7. Test the cleaner again
Once the cleaner has cooled, the battery is charged and all cleaned components are dry and correctly fitted:
- Disconnect the charger.
- Tilt the handle into the working position.
- Switch the cleaner on and test a small area.
- Note the battery percentage and any message on the display if it stops again.
If the cleaner repeatedly cuts out after these checks, stop using it and contact us for further assistance.
If you notice smoke, a burning smell, unusual battery swelling or visible electrical damage, do not use or charge the appliance.
Still stopping or cutting out?
