If your Morphy Richards MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner (model 740002) sounds louder than usual, rattles or makes an unfamiliar noise, follow the checks below.
The motor, suction and rotating roller produce sound during normal operation. However, a new or persistent noise should be checked, particularly if cleaning performance has also changed.
1. Note when the noise happens
Before checking the cleaner, consider whether the noise:
- Starts as soon as the cleaner is switched on.
- Happens only in a particular mode.
- Comes from the roller or floor-cleaning head.
- Occurs during self-cleaning.
- Is accompanied by poor water pick-up, vibration or the cleaner stopping.
The sound may change when you switch modes. Grinding, scraping or repeated clicking should be investigated before continuing.
If there is smoke, a burning smell or visible electrical damage, stop using the cleaner and contact our Customer Support team.
2. Switch off and check for blockages
Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger before removing components or inspecting openings.
Check the accessible suction inlet and the elbow connection behind the floor-cleaning head for trapped debris.
The arrow shows the elbow connection to inspect for blockages.
Gently remove accessible debris using the supplied cleaning brush where it can reach. Do not force tools into openings, push debris further inside or dismantle the connection.
Contact us if a blockage is out of reach.
3. Empty and clean the dirty water tank
Remove and empty the dirty water tank, then rinse the tank and lid thoroughly.
Check that the float is clear of debris and moves freely. Reassemble the lid and tank securely.
A change in noise alongside reduced water pick-up is a useful reason to check the tank and suction pathway.
4. Clean the filters
Remove dirt from the mesh and sponge filters and rinse them thoroughly with clean water.
Allow the sponge filter to dry fully before refitting. Check that all filter components are correctly assembled.
Do not run the cleaner with its filters removed.
5. Check the roller for trapped debris
Hair, threads or objects caught around the roller can interfere with its movement and create noise.
- Remove the roller cover and roller following the user manual.
- Clear hair, threads and debris, including around the roller ends.
- Inspect the roller compartment for loose debris.
- Clean the roller and cover as needed.
Do not touch or attempt to adjust the roller while the cleaner is running.
If you see damage to the roller, its ends or the cover, contact us before using the cleaner again.
6. Refit the roller, cover and tanks securely
Check that:
- The roller is correctly seated and its lever end snaps into position.
- The roller cover clicks into place.
- Both water tanks are securely fitted.
- The dirty water tank lid and filters are correctly assembled.
Do not force a component that will not fit. Remove it and check for debris or incorrect alignment.
7. Test the cleaner again
If no damage is visible, reassemble the cleaner and test a small area with the roller and cover fitted.
Listen for whether the noise has stopped and check that cleaning and water pick-up have returned to normal.
If grinding, scraping, repeated clicking or strong vibration continues, switch the cleaner off and contact us. Avoid repeatedly restarting it to reproduce the noise.
If the cleaner also stops during use, see My floor cleaner keeps stopping or cutting out.
What if the noise happens during self-cleaning?
Self-cleaning involves roller movement and suction, so sound during the cycle is expected.
If the noise is new, unusually loud or accompanied by poor roller movement, switch the cleaner off and complete the checks above.
See The self-clean function isn’t working for further guidance. Do not remove the roller or cover while a cycle is running.
Still making an unusual noise?
Contact our Customer Support team and include:
- Your model number and purchase details.
- A description of the sound and where it appears to come from.
- When it happens and which mode is selected.
- Whether water pick-up or roller movement has changed.
- The checks you have completed.
- Photographs of any visible damage.
A short video with clear audio can help us assess the noise. Record with all components fitted and keep hands away from moving parts.
Do not recreate the issue if there is smoke, a burning smell, visible electrical damage or severe grinding.
We’ll review the information and advise on the next steps.
