If your Morphy Richards MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner (model 740002) is leaking water, follow the checks below to help identify where it is coming from.
Incorrectly fitted tanks, an unsecured cap, excessive foam or water remaining around the roller can all contribute to water escaping.
Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger before removing components or checking for leaks. If water has reached the charging connection or electrical parts, do not use or charge the cleaner—contact our Customer Support team.
1. Identify where the water is coming from
Wipe the outside of the cleaner dry, then check whether water appears to be coming from:
- The clean water tank or its cap.
- The dirty water tank or lid.
- The floor-cleaning head.
- Beneath the cleaner while it is parked.
If water is being spread across the floor during cleaning rather than escaping from a tank or connection, see My floor cleaner isn’t picking up water or is leaving the floor too wet.
2. Check the clean water tank and cap
- Remove the clean water tank.
- Check that it has not been overfilled.
- Inspect the tank, cap and visible sealing surfaces for debris or damage.
- Close the cap securely.
- Wipe the outside dry and refit the tank until it clicks into place.
Do not use hot water in the clean water tank.
If the tank is cracked, the cap will not close properly or water continues to escape from the tank, contact us. Do not attempt to repair it with glue or sealant.
3. Check the dirty water tank
A full or incorrectly assembled dirty water tank can allow water to spill.
- Empty the tank before it reaches the MAX mark.
- Rinse the tank and lid.
- Check that the float is free from debris and moves freely.
- Make sure the filter assembly and lid are correctly fitted.
- Refit the bottom of the tank first, then press the upper section into place until it clicks.
Inspect the tank and lid for visible damage. Allow a washed sponge filter to dry fully before refitting.
4. Check for excessive foam
Too much detergent or an unsuitable cleaning product can create excessive foam and affect operation.
If foam has built up:
- Empty and rinse both tanks.
- Clean residue from the roller, cover and filters.
- Allow the sponge filter to dry fully.
- Refill the clean water tank using the correct solution and dose.
See Which cleaning solution can I use? for guidance.
5. Check the roller, cover and suction inlet
With the cleaner switched off:
- Remove trapped hair and debris from the roller.
- Clean the roller and cover.
- Check the accessible suction inlet and elbow connection for blockages.
- Refit the roller securely and make sure the cover clicks into place.
Do not force tools into openings or dismantle the cleaning head. Contact us if a blockage is out of reach.
6. Keep the cleaner upright when parking
Tilting or laying the cleaner on its side while the tanks contain water can cause spills.
When taking a break:
- Switch the cleaner off.
- Return the handle to the upright park position.
- Place the cleaner on its storage base.
Some moisture may remain around a wet roller after cleaning. The storage base helps contain this, but a continuing leak or a growing puddle should be investigated.
Do not leave the cleaner running while stationary.
7. Check after-use care
Before storing the cleaner:
- Empty both tanks.
- Clean the roller, cover and filters.
- Allow cleaned parts to dry.
- Wipe the storage base and the floor beneath it dry.
- Store the cleaner upright on its base.
See How to store your floor cleaner after use for the full routine.
8. Test again if no damage is present
If the checks above reveal no damage and no water has entered electrical areas, reassemble the cleaner and test a small area of suitable hard flooring.
Check whether water is still escaping and where it first appears. Stop the test if the leak continues.
Still leaking water?
Contact our Customer Support team and include:
- Your model and serial number.
- Purchase details.
- Where the water appears to come from.
- Whether it happens during cleaning, self-cleaning or while parked.
- Whether it occurs with the tanks full, partly full or empty.
- The cleaning solution and amount you use.
- The checks you have completed.
- Photographs of the affected area and any visible damage.
A short video showing where the leak begins can help us assess the issue. Do not recreate a leak if water is reaching electrical parts.
We’ll review the information and advise on the next steps.
