Having trouble getting Alexa to operate your Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle?
If Alexa is responding to you but your kettle isn't carrying out the request, follow the troubleshooting steps below to check your Alexa device, voice command and kettle connection.
Before you start
Make sure:
- Your Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle has been set up in the Amazon Alexa app
- Your kettle is connected to its power base
- Your kettle has power
- Your kettle is connected to Wi-Fi
- Your Alexa-enabled device is connected and working
How to troubleshoot Alexa voice commands
1. Check Alexa is responding
First, check that your Alexa-enabled device is working normally.
Say:
"Alexa..."
and ask Alexa something unrelated to your kettle, such as the time.
If Alexa doesn't respond to other requests, the problem is likely to be with your Alexa-enabled device or its connection rather than your Morphy Richards Kettle.
If Alexa responds normally, continue with the checks below.
2. Check your kettle has power
Make sure your kettle is correctly positioned on its cordless power base and the base is connected to the mains supply.
When connected to the mains, the kettle should beep and the Power symbol will illuminate, showing that it's in standby mode.
If your kettle isn't receiving power, Alexa won't be able to operate it.
See:
3. Check your kettle in the Alexa app
Open the Amazon Alexa app and select:
Devices → Morphy Richards Kettle
Check that your kettle appears and is available.
The kettle's device screen gives you access to its smart controls and information, including power, current water temperature, water level, preset temperature, Keep Warm and Alexa Routines.
If your kettle isn't appearing in the Alexa app, see:
Alexa Can't Find My Morphy Richards Kettle
If it was previously connected but has disappeared or become unavailable, see:
My Alexa Kettle Has Disconnected from Alexa
4. Try controlling the kettle from the Alexa app
Try operating your kettle using the controls on its device screen in the Alexa app.
If the kettle responds through the Alexa app but not to your voice command, this suggests that the kettle is connected and you should check the voice command, device name or Routine you're using.
If the kettle doesn't respond through the Alexa app either, check its Wi-Fi connection.
See:
My Alexa Kettle Won't Connect to Wi-Fi
5. Check the name of your kettle
Alexa uses the name assigned to your kettle.
To check or change it:
- Open your kettle's main screen in the Alexa app.
- Select Settings.
- Select Edit Name under Morphy Richards Kettle.
- Check or change the device name.
- Select < to go back.
If you've renamed your kettle, make sure you're using the correct name when speaking to Alexa where required.
A simple and distinctive device name can make it easier for Alexa to identify the device you want to control.
6. Check your voice-triggered Routine
If you're using an Alexa Routine to operate your kettle, check that the Routine is active and you're saying the correct trigger phrase.
For example, the user manual shows a Routine using:
"Alexa, boil the kettle."
Open Your Routines in the Alexa app and check that:
- The Routine is switched on
- You're using the correct voice trigger
- The Routine hasn't been changed or deleted
Important: Your kettle must show Power On on the main control screen for a Routine to work successfully.

How to Use Alexa Routines with Your Morphy Richards Kettle
7. Try your voice command again
Once you've completed the checks above, try the voice command again.
Speak clearly and make sure your Alexa-enabled device can hear you.
If you're using a Routine, use the exact voice phrase you've set as the trigger.
Alexa says "Kettle isn't responding"
If Alexa hears your command but responds with:
"Kettle isn't responding"
this means Alexa has received your request, but there's a problem communicating with the kettle.
We've got a separate troubleshooting guide specifically for this message:
My Alexa Kettle Says "Kettle Isn't Responding"
Alexa responds to other devices but not my kettle
If Alexa can control your other smart devices normally but won't operate your Morphy Richards Kettle, focus your checks on the kettle.
Make sure:
- The kettle has power
- The kettle appears in the Alexa app
- The kettle is connected to Wi-Fi
- The kettle is showing as available
- You're using the correct device name
- Any voice-triggered Routine is active
If your kettle is showing as offline or unavailable, see:
