Has Alexa said "Kettle isn't responding" when you've tried to use your Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle?
This message can appear when Alexa is unable to communicate with your kettle. Follow the troubleshooting steps below to check your kettle's power, Wi-Fi and Alexa connection.
Before you start
You'll need:
- Your Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle
- A smartphone or tablet with the Amazon Alexa app installed
- An Amazon account
- Your kettle connected to its power base
- Your home Wi-Fi connection
Make sure your kettle has previously been successfully set up in the Amazon Alexa app before beginning these checks.
How to troubleshoot "Kettle isn't responding"
1. Check your kettle has power
Make sure your kettle is correctly positioned on its cordless power base and the base is connected to the mains supply.
When connected to the mains, the kettle should beep and the Power symbol will illuminate, showing that it's in standby mode.
If there's no sign of power, see:
2. Check your kettle in the Alexa app
Open the Amazon Alexa app and select:
Devices → Morphy Richards Kettle
Check whether your kettle is showing as available.
If the kettle is showing as offline, unavailable or is no longer connected to Alexa, see:
My Alexa Kettle Has Disconnected from Alexa
3. Try controlling your kettle from the Alexa app
If your kettle is showing as available, try operating it using the controls on the kettle's device screen in the Alexa app.
The Alexa app provides controls and information for your kettle, including power, current water temperature, remaining water level, preset temperature and Keep Warm.
If the kettle responds through the Alexa app but doesn't respond when you use your voice, the connection to your kettle may be working correctly.
See:
My Alexa Kettle Isn't Responding to My Voice Command
4. Check your internet connection
Make sure your home Wi-Fi and internet connection are working normally.
Try using another device connected to your Wi-Fi to check whether you can access the internet.
If other connected devices are also unavailable, there may be an issue with your home network.
5. Check your kettle's Wi-Fi connection
Your Morphy Richards Alexa Kettle requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection for setup.
If you've recently changed your:
- Router
- Wi-Fi network name
- Wi-Fi password
your kettle may need to be connected using the new network details.
See:
My Alexa Kettle Won't Connect to Wi-Fi
6. Close and reopen the Alexa app
Close the Amazon Alexa app completely and then reopen it.
Go back to:
Devices → Morphy Richards Kettle
Check the kettle's status again and try controlling it from the app.
If it's now showing as available, try your Alexa command again.
My kettle is still showing as unavailable
If your kettle still isn't available in the Alexa app after completing the checks above, you may need to reconnect it.
Put your kettle into pairing mode
To put your kettle into pairing mode:
- Make sure the kettle is connected to the mains supply.
- Press the illuminated Power symbol to activate the full control panel.
- Press and hold the SET button for 3 seconds.
- The kettle will beep and the Wi-Fi symbol will start to flash.
The flashing Wi-Fi symbol indicates that your kettle is ready to pair.
Open the Alexa app and select:
Devices → + → Add Device → Kettle → Morphy Richards
Then follow the instructions in the Alexa app to reconnect your kettle.
For full instructions, see:
How to Manually Set Up Your Morphy Richards Alexa Kettle
Alexa can control other devices but not my kettle
If Alexa responds normally and can control your other smart devices, but continues to say "Kettle isn't responding", focus your checks on the kettle's connection.
Make sure your kettle:
- Has power
- Is correctly positioned on its power base
- Is connected to Wi-Fi
- Appears in the Alexa app
- Is showing as available rather than offline
If your kettle was previously working with Alexa but has become unavailable, see:
My Alexa Kettle Has Disconnected from Alexa
