If your Morphy Richards 1.8L Easy Steam Steam Generator Iron (333030) is dripping or leaking water, first check where the water is coming from.
Water dripping through the holes in the soleplate can usually be resolved through troubleshooting and cleaning. If water is leaking from the body of the iron, base unit, water tank or steam supply cord, stop using the appliance.
Is Water Dripping From the Soleplate?
Water may come through the soleplate if steam is used before the iron has reached the correct temperature.
Follow these checks:
- Set the temperature dial to two dots or above.
- Allow the iron to reach the selected temperature.
- Wait until the selected ECO or High steam indicator remains steadily illuminated.
- Press and hold the steam trigger.
- Test the iron on an old, clean towel before using it on clothing.
The appliance will not produce steam correctly when the temperature dial is set below two dots.
Always check the garment’s care label before choosing a temperature.
Has the Automatic Shut-Off Activated?
The steam generator switches off automatically after approximately 10 minutes without use or steam production.
If the appliance has switched itself off:
- Press the On/Off button.
- Allow the iron to heat up again.
- Wait until the selected steam indicator remains steadily illuminated.
- Test the steam on an old, clean towel.
Using steam before the iron has reheated may cause water to drip from the soleplate.
Check the Water Tank
Switch off and unplug the appliance before removing or checking the water tank.
Make sure:
- The water level is not above the MAX line.
- The tank is fitted securely into the base unit.
- The tank has no visible cracks or damage.
- Water is not escaping from the filling aperture.
If the water tank is visibly damaged or continues to leak after being refitted, do not continue using the appliance.
Check the Water Being Used
The type of water used can affect the performance of the steam generator. Limescale, minerals, fragrances and other additives can collect inside the system and cause water to drip through the soleplate.

Never add fragranced ironing water, starch, perfume, vinegar or chemical descaler to the water tank.
Complete the Calc Clean Cycle
If the Calc Clean indicator is flashing, complete the Easy Steam Steam Generator Calc Clean cycle.
Limescale or deposits inside the steam system can restrict the flow of steam and cause water to come through the soleplate.
Once the cleaning cycle has finished:
- Switch off and unplug the appliance.
- Allow the iron and Calc Clean tray to cool completely.
- Wipe the cooled soleplate with a clean, damp cloth.
- Test the steam on an old, clean towel.
Where there is a heavy build-up or stubborn blockage, the Calc Clean process may need to be repeated. Allow the appliance and tray to cool completely between each cycle.
Continue testing away from clothing until the steam runs clear and no further water or residue is released.
Is Steam Continuing After Releasing the Trigger?
A small amount of steam may continue to come from the soleplate for a few seconds after the steam trigger is released.
This is residual steam travelling through the steam supply cord and is part of the appliance’s normal operation. It should reduce and stop after a few seconds.
Is Water Leaking From Somewhere Other Than the Soleplate?
Stop using the steam generator if water is leaking from:
- The body or handle of the iron
- The base unit
- A damaged water tank
- The steam supply cord
- The point where a cable or cord connects to the appliance
Switch off the appliance, unplug it and allow it to cool completely.
Do not continue using an appliance that is visibly damaged or leaking from anywhere other than the soleplate steam holes.

- Where the water is coming from
- Whether it happens immediately or after the appliance has been used for a while
- The temperature and steam settings being used
- Whether the Calc Clean indicator is illuminated
- The type of water that has been used
Please also send a clear video showing where the water is leaking from, if it is safe to do so. An image of the water or water container normally used may also help us investigate.
Do not dismantle or attempt to repair the steam generator yourself.
