If the Calc Clean indicator is flashing on your Morphy Richards 1.8L Easy Steam Steam Generator Iron (333030), the appliance needs to complete a Calc Clean cycle.
The Calc Clean function removes limescale and deposits from inside the steam system, helping to maintain steam performance and prevent blockages, dripping or residue from the soleplate.
Before Starting the Calc Clean Cycle
You will need the Calc Clean tray supplied with your steam generator.
Before you begin:
- Fill the water tank to the MAX line.
- Place the Calc Clean tray on a flat, stable and heat-resistant surface.
- Keep children and pets away from the appliance.
- Make sure there is enough space around the appliance for steam to escape safely.
The cleaning process releases hot steam and very hot water. Do not hold the iron or move the tray while the cycle is running.
Do not add vinegar, chemical descaler, detergent or any other cleaning product to the water tank.
How to Complete the Calc Clean Cycle
- Fill the detachable water tank to the MAX line and refit it securely.
- Place the Calc Clean tray on a flat, stable and heat-resistant surface.
- Position the iron soleplate-down on the Calc Clean tray.
- Turn the temperature dial to MAX.
- Press and hold the Calc Clean button for two seconds.
- Stand back when the buzzer sounds, as hot steam will be released.
- Leave the iron in position while the cleaning cycle runs.
The Calc Clean indicator will continue to flash throughout the cleaning cycle. This is normal.
The cycle takes approximately two minutes.
After the Calc Clean Cycle
Once the cleaning cycle has finished:
- Switch off and unplug the steam generator.
- Leave the iron on the Calc Clean tray and allow everything to cool completely.
- Do not move or empty the tray while it contains hot water.
- Once cool, empty and rinse the Calc Clean tray.
- Wipe the cooled soleplate with a clean, damp cloth to remove any limescale or residue released during cleaning.
- Test the steam on an old, clean towel before using the iron on clothing.
Do not use scouring powders, abrasive cleaners or metal cleaning tools on the soleplate.
Is There Still Residue Coming From the Soleplate?
Where there is a heavy build-up or a stubborn blockage inside the steam system, one Calc Clean cycle may not remove all the deposits.
Allow the appliance and Calc Clean tray to cool completely before repeating the cleaning process. Use fresh water and complete each cycle in full.
The process may need to be repeated until the water runs clear and no further particles or residue are released.
Do not use the iron on clothing while it is releasing discoloured water or deposits, as this may cause staining.
Help Prevent Limescale Build-Up
To help maintain the appliance:
- Use deionised, distilled or demineralised water.
- Never add fragranced ironing water, starch, perfume, vinegar or chemical descaler to the water tank.
- Complete the Calc Clean cycle whenever the indicator flashes.
- Empty the water tank after use.

Is the Calc Clean Indicator Still Flashing?
The indicator will flash throughout the cleaning cycle. Allow the full cycle to finish before switching off the appliance.
If the indicator continues to flash after the cleaning process has been completed correctly, switch off and unplug the appliance, allow it to cool and complete the cycle again.
If the indicator remains illuminated after the cycle has been repeated correctly, please contact Morphy Richards Customer Support.

- The full model number
- The serial number
- Your purchase details
- Whether the full Calc Clean cycle completes
- Whether the appliance produces steam
- Whether any water or residue is released into the tray
- The type of water that has been used
