Using suitable water in your Morphy Richards 1.8L Easy Steam Steam Generator Iron (333030) helps reduce limescale and maintain consistent steam performance.
Recommended Water
For the best performance, we recommend using 100% plain:
- Deionised water
- Distilled water
- Demineralised water
This is particularly important if you live in a hard-water area, where minerals can build up more quickly inside the steam system.
The water must be plain and must not contain fragrance, starch or any other additives.
Can I Use Tap Water?
To reduce the risk of limescale, blockages and deposits, we recommend using deionised, distilled or demineralised water rather than tap water.
Tap water contains minerals that can collect inside the steam generator over time. The amount of mineral build-up will vary depending on the water hardness in your area.
Even when using the recommended water, you should still complete the Calc Clean cycle whenever the indicator flashes.
Do Not Use Scented Ironing Water
Do not use fragranced or scented ironing water in the Easy Steam Steam Generator.
Although some products are sold specifically for ironing, fragrances and other additives can collect inside the steam system and may cause:
- Reduced or inconsistent steam
- Blockages
- Water dripping from the soleplate
- Brown or discoloured water
- Residue or marks on clothing
Always check the label carefully. Only use plain deionised, distilled or demineralised water without added fragrance or other ingredients.
Water and Additives That Must Not Be Used
Never put any of the following into the water tank:
- Fragranced or scented ironing water
- Starch or fabric treatments
- Perfume or essential oils
- Sugar or products containing sugar
- Vinegar
- Chemical descaler
- Detergent or alcohol
- Battery top-up fluid
- Defrosted water from a refrigerator or freezer
Battery top-up fluid must not be used, even if its packaging describes it as deionised water.
Do not mix any cleaning product or additive with the water.
Can I Use Bottled Drinking Water?
Bottled mineral or spring water is not the same as distilled, deionised or demineralised water. It can still contain minerals that may create deposits inside the appliance.
Only use bottled water if it is clearly labelled as plain deionised, distilled or demineralised water and contains no additives.
What Should I Do if Unsuitable Water Has Been Used?
If fragranced water, additives or another unsuitable water type has been used:
- Switch off and unplug the appliance.
- Allow it to cool completely.
- Remove and empty the detachable water tank.
- Rinse the tank thoroughly with clean water.
- Refill it with fresh deionised, distilled or demineralised water.
- Complete the full Easy Steam Steam Generator Calc Clean cycle.
- Once the appliance has cooled, wipe the soleplate with a clean, damp cloth.
- Test the steam on an old, clean towel.
Where there is a heavy build-up or stubborn deposits inside the steam system, the Calc Clean process may need to be repeated. Allow the appliance and Calc Clean tray to cool completely between each cycle.
Continue testing the appliance away from clothing until the water runs clear and no further particles or residue are released.
Help Prevent Limescale and Deposits
To help maintain your steam generator:
- Use plain deionised, distilled or demineralised water.
- Never add fragrances or other products to the water tank.
- Complete the Calc Clean cycle whenever the indicator flashes.
- Empty the water tank after use.
- Test the steam on an old towel after completing a cleaning cycle.
