Having trouble scanning the QR code when setting up your Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle? If the Amazon Alexa app isn't recognising the QR code, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Before you start
You'll need:
- Your Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle
- A smartphone or tablet with the Amazon Alexa app installed
- An Amazon account
- Your kettle connected to the power supply
- Your Wi-Fi network and password
Make sure your smartphone or tablet has the latest version of the Amazon Alexa app installed and is connected to Wi-Fi before you begin.
How to troubleshoot your Alexa Kettle QR code
1. Check you're scanning the correct QR code
Make sure you're scanning the QR code provided for your Morphy Richards Alexa Kettle.
When setting up your kettle through the Alexa app, select:
Devices → + → Add Device → Kettle → Morphy Richards
Alexa will then ask you to scan the barcode or QR code as part of the setup process.
2. Check the QR code is clearly visible
Make sure the QR code is clean, undamaged and fully visible.
If the code is printed on a surface, check that it isn't:
- Creased
- Scratched
- Dirty
- Obscured
- Partially covered
The Alexa app needs to be able to clearly read the whole QR code.
3. Check your phone's camera
Make sure the camera on your smartphone or tablet is clean and working correctly.
Hold your device steady and position the QR code within the scanning area shown in the Alexa app.
Avoid holding the phone too close to the QR code. Move it slowly backwards or forwards until the code is clearly in focus.
4. Make sure there's enough light
Try scanning the QR code in a well-lit area.
Avoid bright reflections or glare across the QR code, as these can make it difficult for your camera to recognise the code.
5. Try scanning again
Return to the QR code scanning screen in the Alexa app and try again.
Hold your smartphone or tablet steady and make sure the entire QR code is visible on the screen.
Allow a few moments for Alexa to recognise the code.
Can't scan the QR code?
You don't need to scan the QR code to set up your Morphy Richards Alexa Kettle.
If the QR code won't scan, select:

in the Alexa app.
You can then continue with the manual setup process.

Alexa still won't recognise the QR code
If you've tried the steps above and the QR code still won't scan, check the following:
Check the Alexa app
Make sure you're using the Amazon Alexa app and have started the setup process for a kettle.
Go to:
Devices → + → Add Device → Kettle → Morphy Richards
Check your phone or tablet
Make sure your camera is working correctly and that the QR code is visible and in focus.
If your device asks for permission to use the camera, allow the Alexa app to access it.
Try the manual setup
If you're still unable to scan the QR code, you can continue without scanning it by selecting:
Don't have a barcode?
The manual confirms that this option allows you to continue with the setup process without scanning the QR code.
