If you notice brown water coming from your Power 2400W SteamElite Plus Steam Generator, this is usually caused by limescale deposits or minerals in the water, rather than a product fault. Understanding why it happens and how to prevent it ensures your iron continues performing safely and efficiently.
💧 1. What Causes Brown Water?
Brown water in your steam iron occurs when:
Tap water with high mineral content (hard water) reacts with heat over time.
Incorrect water mixes are used, such as pure tap water, scented water, ironing water, or pure demineralised water.
Maintenance has been skipped, including running the Auto Clean or Auto Descale cycles.
❌ This is not a defect and is not covered under the Morphy Richards warranty.
The brown coloration is mineral deposits and limescale released from the boiler during normal use — it’s safe but indicates that maintenance or water mix adjustments are needed.
♻️ 2. How to Fix Brown Water
Empty the water tank and dirty water chamber completely.
Fill the tank with the recommended 50% tap water + 50% demineralised/distilled water mix.
Run the Auto Clean / Auto Descale cycle to flush the system of limescale and deposits.
Empty the dirty water chamber again after the cycle.
Repeat the cycle if brown water persists, until water runs clear.
💡 Tip: Running Auto Clean proactively every 5 litres of water helps prevent brown water forming.
🌡️ 3. Preventing Brown Water
Always use the recommended 50/50 water mix.
Never use scented, ironing, or pure demineralised water.
Regularly run Auto Clean to prevent limescale buildup.
Avoid letting water sit in the tank for extended periods.
⚡ These simple steps maintain safe, clear steam, prolong boiler life, and reduce dripping or brown water.
⚠️ 4. Key Points
Brown water is caused by minerals and limescale, not a product fault.
Following water mix and maintenance instructions will prevent brown water in the future.
If you see brown water, do not be alarmed — just run Auto Clean and refill with the correct water mix.
