If the low water level warning light on your Morphy Richards Power 2400W SteamElite Plus Steam Generator (model 332013) stays on after you've refilled the water tank, there are several checks you can carry out.
The low-water indicator is designed to alert you when there isn't enough water for steam production. When the water level becomes too low, the appliance sounds a beep, illuminates the warning light and stops producing steam.
If you've refilled the tank but the warning remains illuminated, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
1. What Does the Low Water Level Light Mean?
The SteamElite Plus has a low-water warning indicator on its control panel.
When the appliance detects that the water level is too low:
- The low water level indicator illuminates.
- The appliance sounds a beep.
- Steam production stops until sufficient water is available.
This is a normal warning designed to prevent the appliance from attempting to produce steam without sufficient water.
Important: The low-water warning relates to steam production. The SteamElite Plus can also be used for dry ironing without water in the tank, so the warning doesn't automatically indicate a heating problem.
2. Check the Water Level
The first step is to confirm that the clean water chamber contains sufficient water.
What to Do
- Release the steam trigger and place the iron safely on its rest.
- Remove the detachable water tank using the water tank release button.
- Open the filling cap on the clean water chamber.
- Refill the tank with the recommended water mixture, without exceeding the MAX filling line.
- Close the filling cap securely.
- Refit the water tank correctly into the base unit.
Only fill the clean water chamber. Never add water to the dirty water chamber.
The tank doesn't need to be filled above the MAX line, and overfilling should always be avoided.
Once the tank has been refitted, check whether the low-water warning clears.
3. Check That the Water Tank Is Correctly Fitted
If the warning remains illuminated after refilling, check that the detachable water tank has been replaced correctly.
What to Do
- Ensure the tank is positioned correctly in its housing.
- Check that it is fully seated in the base unit.
- Make sure the tank isn't sitting at an angle or partially detached.
- Check that there is no obvious obstruction preventing it from fitting correctly.
- If necessary, remove and refit the tank once more.
The water tank should fit securely into its normal operating position.
Do not force the tank into place or attempt to modify its fittings.
If the tank is visibly cracked, damaged or leaking, stop using the appliance and contact Customer Support.
4. Check the Recommended Water Mixture
The SteamElite Plus 332013 has specific water recommendations to help reduce mineral deposits and maintain performance.
Morphy Richards recommends:
- 50% tap water
- 50% deionised, distilled or demineralised water
For example, to prepare 1 litre of water, mix 500ml tap water with 500ml deionised, distilled or demineralised water.
Never use more than 50% deionised, distilled or demineralised water.
Do not add scented ironing water, perfume, starch, vinegar, chemical descalers or other additives.
The user manual doesn't state that using an incorrect water mixture automatically causes the low-water indicator to remain illuminated. However, following the recommended water guidance is important for maintaining your appliance.

5. Check Whether Auto Clean Is Running
The SteamElite Plus has an automatic cleaning system that operates after approximately 5 litres of water have been used, once the appliance has cooled completely and is next switched on.
During Auto Clean, the appliance uses water from the clean water chamber to flush its internal boiler.
If there isn't enough water to complete the cleaning process:
- The low-water indicator illuminates.
- Auto Clean pauses.
- The appliance waits for the water tank to be refilled and replaced.
What to Do
- Check whether the descaling indicator is flashing.
- If Auto Clean is in progress, allow the appliance to pause before removing the water tank.
- Never remove the water tank while Auto Clean is actively discharging hot water.
- When it is safe to do so, refill the clean water chamber with the recommended water mixture.
- Refit the water tank securely.
- Allow the automatic cleaning process to resume and complete.
Auto Clean takes approximately 3 minutes when operating normally.
Once the cycle finishes, the descaling indicator switches off and the low steam level indicator begins flashing while the appliance prepares for normal steam ironing.
You cannot manually start or reset Auto Clean.

6. Low Water Light Is Off but There's Still No Steam
If the low-water indicator has switched off after refilling but the appliance still isn't producing steam, the issue may be related to the steam settings or heating process rather than the water level.
What to Check
- Confirm that the steam generator is switched on.
- Select the required steam level using the control panel.
- Wait until the selected steam level indicator stops flashing and remains illuminated.
- Set the iron's temperature dial appropriately for steam ironing, following the garment's care label.
- Wait until the temperature indicator light on the iron goes out.
- Press the steam trigger to check whether steam is produced.
If the appliance heats normally but still doesn't produce steam, see:
SteamElite Plus (332013) – Not Producing Steam
7. What If the Low Water Light Stays On After Refilling?
If the warning remains illuminated despite sufficient water and the tank being correctly fitted, further investigation may be required.
Examples include:
- The low-water indicator stays on when the clean water chamber contains sufficient water.
- The warning doesn't clear after the tank has been removed and correctly refitted.
- The appliance repeatedly reports low water despite the tank being adequately filled.
- Steam production remains unavailable because the low-water warning doesn't clear.
- Auto Clean remains paused despite the water tank being refilled and replaced.
These symptoms don't automatically confirm a manufacturing fault, but they may indicate an issue that cannot be resolved through standard troubleshooting.
Do not attempt to dismantle the water tank, access internal components or bypass the warning system.
