If your Morphy Richards MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner (model 740002) is leaving streaks, lines or residue on the floor, follow the checks below.
A dirty roller, excessive cleaning solution or water left on the surface can affect the finish. These checks will help you identify the cause and improve your cleaning results.
1. Clean the roller and roller cover
A dirty roller can carry dirt and cleaning residue across the floor instead of leaving an even finish.
Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger before removing components.
- Remove the roller cover and roller as described in the user manual.
- Remove any hair, threads or trapped debris.
- Wash the roller and cover under running water, removing visible dirt and residue.
- Gently clear accessible debris from the roller compartment without allowing water into electrical parts.
- Refit the roller securely and ensure the cover clicks into place.
Clean the roller and cover after each use. If you are storing the cleaner, allow the roller to dry before refitting.
2. Check your cleaning solution
Using too much cleaning solution can leave a film or streaky residue on the floor. Products that create excessive foam can also affect the cleaner’s operation.
- Use cleaning solution as directed in the user manual.
- Follow the detergent manufacturer’s dosing instructions.
- Do not add extra solution to tackle stubborn marks.
- Do not add washing-up liquid or mix cleaning products.
If you have used too much or an unsuitable product, empty and rinse the clean water tank, then refill it correctly. Clean the roller and dirty water tank to remove remaining residue.
3. Use steady, overlapping passes
For a more even finish:
- Push the cleaner forwards using a steady, controlled movement.
- Pull it backwards along the same strip of floor.
- Slightly overlap each new strip to avoid leaving gaps.
- Avoid repeatedly washing one spot without collecting the water left behind.
If dirt remains on a particular area, make additional controlled passes rather than increasing the amount of cleaning solution.
4. Collect excess water using Rapid Suction mode
Water left on the floor can dry unevenly and leave visible marks.
Select Rapid Suction mode and make a steady return pass over the area to help collect remaining water.
If the floor stays unusually wet, follow our guide: My floor cleaner isn’t picking up water or is leaving the floor too wet.
5. Empty the dirty water tank and check the filters
With the cleaner switched off:
- Empty and rinse the dirty water tank.
- Check that the float moves freely.
- Remove debris from the filters and clean them as described in the user manual.
- Allow the sponge filter to dry fully before refitting.
- Reassemble the tank and filters securely.
These checks help maintain water pick-up and reduce excess moisture left on the floor.
6. Check for existing floor residue
Residue from previously used detergents, polish or floor treatments may become more visible during wet cleaning.
If the roller is clean and the solution is correctly measured but streaks continue:
- Check your flooring manufacturer’s cleaning recommendations.
- Make sure both the floor cleaner and cleaning solution are suitable for your flooring.
- Test a small, inconspicuous area before cleaning the whole floor.
- Avoid adding stronger detergent or household chemicals to remove the marks.
Only wet-clean flooring that is suitable for this method. Follow any restrictions provided by your flooring manufacturer.
7. Allow the floor to dry before assessing the finish
Avoid walking over the wet area, as footprints can leave additional marks.
Once the floor has dried, check whether the streaks remain. Persistent residue, discolouration or scratches should be investigated before continuing to clean the area.
