If your Morphy Richards MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner (model 740002) is leaving excess water on the floor or collecting very little dirty water, follow the checks below.
Water pick-up can be affected by cleaning technique, trapped debris, incorrectly fitted components or filters that need cleaning.
1. Use steady forward and backward passes
Your floor cleaner needs time to wash the floor and collect the dirty water. Use steady, controlled passes rather than quick vacuuming strokes.
- Push the cleaner forwards over a strip of floor.
- Pull it backwards along the same strip, rather than moving straight to a new area.
- Select Rapid Suction mode on the backward pass to help collect water.
- Slightly overlap the next strip and repeat.
If water remains, make another steady pass over the area using Rapid Suction mode.
2. Empty and check the dirty water tank
Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger before removing components or checking for blockages.
- Empty the dirty water tank before it reaches the MAX mark.
- Rinse the tank and lid thoroughly.
- Check that the float is free from debris and moves freely.
- Refit the lid and tank securely.
3. Clean and dry the filters
Remove dirt from the mesh and sponge filters, then rinse them thoroughly with clean water.
Allow the sponge filter to dry fully before refitting. Reassemble all filter components correctly.
4. Clean and refit the roller and cover
Remove hair, threads and debris from the roller, then clean the roller and its cover.
Refit both securely, ensuring the roller cover clicks into place.
5. Check for blockages inside the elbow connection
Hair, fluff and other debris can collect in the suction pathway and restrict water pick-up.
With the cleaner switched off, check the accessible inlet and pay particular attention to the elbow connection behind the floor-cleaning head, shown below.
The arrow shows the elbow connection to inspect for trapped debris.
Gently remove accessible debris using the supplied cleaning brush where it can reach.
Do not force tools into the opening, push debris further inside or dismantle the connection.
6. Check for excessive foam
Excessive foam can affect the cleaner’s operation. Use cleaning solution as directed in the user manual and follow the detergent manufacturer’s dosing instructions.
If you notice excessive foam, empty and rinse the dirty water tank and check the type and amount of cleaning solution you are using.
7. Check the clean water tank and valve
The clean water tank valve needs to move freely to release water into the cleaner. Check that it is not blocked or stuck.
- Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger.
- Remove the clean water tank.
- Locate the small outlet valve shown below and remove any visible debris around it.
- Using a small screwdriver or a blunt stick, gently press into the valve to check that it moves freely and is not stuck. Apply light pressure only—do not force, twist or pierce the valve.
- Check that the tank cap is closed securely, then refit the tank.
The arrow identifies the valve to check.
If the valve does not move with gentle pressure, stop and contact our Customer Support team for further assistance.
8. Test the cleaner again
Once all components are correctly reassembled, test a small area using steady forward and backward passes.
Select Rapid Suction mode on the return pass and check:
- Whether water is collecting in the dirty water tank.
- Whether less water remains on the floor.
- Whether the roller is becoming wet during cleaning.
If the roller stays dry, let us know when you contact us, as this helps us distinguish a water-supply issue from a water pick-up issue.
Still having trouble? Send us photographs or a video
If the checks above do not resolve the problem, contact our Customer Support team.
Please include:
- Your model and serial number
- Purchase details.
- A description of the problem and the checks you have completed.
- The cleaning solution you use and how much you add.
- Photographs of the clean water tank valve and elbow connection.
- A short video showing your normal forward and backward cleaning passes, the selected mode and the water left behind.
A further water-release check
Our team may ask you to record a self-clean cycle with the roller removed, so we can see whether water is being released into the cleaning head.
This image shows the cleaning head with the roller removed, making the water-release area visible.
If we request this video, keep the cleaning head clearly in view and keep hands and tools away while the cycle is running.
We’ll review the information and guide you through the next steps.
