If your Morphy Richards MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner (model 740002) isn’t releasing water or the roller stays dry during cleaning, follow the checks below.
An empty or incorrectly fitted clean water tank, a blocked or stuck tank valve, or an incorrectly fitted roller can affect cleaning performance.
1. Check the selected cleaning mode
Check whether your cleaner is in Rapid Suction mode, which is intended for collecting water from the floor.
Select Low or High mode to test normal floor washing. With the handle tilted into the working position, move the cleaner steadily forwards and backwards over a small area.
2. Check the clean water tank
Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger before removing components or checking the valve.
- Remove the clean water tank and check that it contains water.
- Fill it as directed in the user manual. Do not use hot water or overfill.
- Check that the tank cap is closed securely.
- Refit the tank until it clicks into place.
An incorrectly seated tank may prevent water from reaching the cleaning head.
3. Check that the tank valve is not blocked or stuck
The small outlet valve on the clean water tank needs to move freely to release water.
- With the cleaner switched off, remove the clean water tank.
- Locate the valve shown below.
- Remove any visible debris around it.
- Using a small screwdriver or a blunt stick, gently press into the valve to check that it moves freely and is not stuck.
- Apply light pressure only. Do not force, twist or pierce the valve.
- Refit the tank securely.
The arrow identifies the valve to check.
If the valve does not move with gentle pressure, stop and contact our Customer Support team.
4. Check the roller and cleaning head
With the cleaner switched off:
- Remove the roller cover and roller as described in the user manual.
- Remove hair, threads and visible debris.
- Check the exposed roller compartment for any build-up.
- Clean the roller and cover, then refit both securely.
Do not insert tools into water outlets or dismantle the cleaning head.
5. Test the cleaner again
Once the tank, roller and cover are correctly fitted:
- Switch the cleaner on in the working position.
- Select Low or High mode.
- Make steady forward and backward passes over a small area.
- Switch the cleaner off before inspecting the roller.
Check whether the roller is now becoming wet and the floor is being washed.
If water is being released but remains on the floor, follow our guide: My floor cleaner isn’t picking up water or is leaving the floor too wet.

- The cleaning solution you use and how much you add.
- A clear photograph of the clean water tank valve.
A video to help us check water release
Our team may ask you to record a self-clean cycle with the roller removed, so we can see whether water is being released into the cleaning head.
This image shows the cleaning head with the roller removed, making the water-release area visible.
If requested, keep the cleaning head clearly in view throughout the video. Keep hands and tools away while the cycle is running.
We’ll review the information and advise on the next steps.
