My Alexa Kettle Switches Off Before Boiling

If your Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle switches off before boiling or stops heating before reaching your selected temperature, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Before you start

Make sure:

  • The kettle contains the correct amount of water
  • The kettle is correctly positioned on its power base
  • You've checked the selected temperature
  • The kettle is regularly descaled

 

What to check if your Alexa Kettle switches off early

1. Check your selected temperature

Your Alexa Kettle doesn't always heat water to 100°C.

The available temperature settings are:

  • 100°C – Fully Boiled
  • 90°C – Coffee
  • 85°C – Tea
  • 80°C – Green Tea
  • 60°C – Honey
  • 40°C – Warm Water

If you've selected one of the lower temperatures, the kettle will stop heating when the water reaches that temperature.

2. Check for limescale

If your kettle is set to 100°C but switches off before the water boils, check for limescale.

The user manual specifically advises that excessive scale can cause the kettle to switch off before boiling and may damage the element.

Regular descaling is essential to maintain the performance of your kettle.

3. Descale your kettle

If you can see limescale or your kettle hasn't been descaled recently, use a proprietary descaling product suitable for stainless steel, glass or plastic and follow the descaling product's instructions carefully.

Your Alexa app will also remind you to descale your kettle after 500 boils.

4. Check the water level

Make sure the kettle isn't filled below the minimum fill line or above the MAX line.

5. Try the kettle again

Once you've checked the temperature setting and descaled the kettle if required, fill it correctly and try a 100°C boil again.
