If your Morphy Richards steam iron or steam generator is leaking water, the first step is to check where the water is coming from.
Drips from the soleplate’s steam vents can be linked to steam settings, the appliance not being ready, or condensation. Water escaping from the tank, body or steam-generator base needs different attention.
Controls, water requirements and maintenance instructions vary between models. Always follow your appliance’s user manual.
1. Allow the appliance to become ready before using steam
Using steam before the appliance is ready may cause water droplets to come through the soleplate.
- Steam irons with adjustable temperatures: check that the selected setting is within the steam range specified in your manual.
- Steam generators: allow the appliance to complete its warm-up process and check its ready indicators.
- Cordless steam irons: return the iron to its base regularly to maintain the heat needed for steam.
Always follow the garment manufacturer’s care label. Do not increase the temperature beyond what the garment permits just to obtain steam.
2. Check the water tank
Overfilling can cause water to escape.
- Do not fill above the MAX mark.
- Follow your model’s filling instructions.
- If the tank is removable, make sure it is correctly fitted.
- Check that any filling cover is properly closed, where applicable.
Switch off and unplug before adjusting the water level, unless your manual specifies a different procedure.
3. Follow the steam-control instructions
Make sure you are using the steam selector, button or trigger as directed in your manual.
If your iron has a steam-boost function, allow the recommended interval between presses. Pressing it repeatedly may cause droplets rather than a consistent burst of steam.
On some steam generators, condensation can collect inside the steam hose between uses. Follow your model’s instructions for clearing any initial droplets before ironing, keeping steam directed away from yourself and others.
4. Check the water and maintenance guidance
Use only the water type and proportions recommended for your model. Do not add scented ironing water, perfume, starch or other additives, as these can leave deposits and affect performance.
If cleaning or descaling is due, follow your appliance’s approved maintenance routine.
Do not add vinegar, descaling chemicals or other cleaning solutions unless your manual specifically instructs you to do so. Follow all cooling instructions before opening a boiler cap or removing an anti-scale component.
For general care advice, see How to Clean and Descale Your Morphy Richards Iron or Steam Generator.
5. Empty and store the appliance correctly
Water left inside an appliance may escape during storage, particularly if it is placed in an unsuitable position.
After use, switch off, unplug and follow your manual’s instructions for cooling, emptying and storage. Use the resting or storage position specified for your model.

When should I contact Customer Service?
If water continues to drip from the soleplate after following your model’s guidance, please contact our Customer Service team.
If water is escaping from the appliance’s body, steam-generator base, cable connection or a visibly damaged tank, stop using it and unplug it if safe to do so. Do not switch it back on to test the leak.
Please provide:
- Your appliance’s model and serial number.
- Where the water is coming from.
- Whether it happens during warm-up, when using steam, throughout use or during storage.
- The water type you use.
- Any indicator lights or messages and the checks you have already completed.
Photos of the affected area can help. Take these only when the appliance is unplugged and completely cool; there is no need to recreate the leak.
