For your Morphy Richards MRX Complete Pro Wet & Dry Hard Floor Cleaner (model 740002), the user manual allows a standard carpet-cleaning solution to be added to the clean water tank.
Choose a product suitable for machine use that does not produce excessive foam, and always follow the detergent manufacturer’s dosing instructions.
The solution must also be suitable for the hard flooring you are cleaning. Check both the solution label and your flooring manufacturer’s care guidance before use.
Can I use Morphy Richards cleaning solution?
You can use the Morphy Richards cleaning solution supplied with your cleaner, following the instructions on the bottle.
Measure the recommended amount carefully. Do not add extra solution for stubborn dirt, as this can increase foam and leave residue on the floor.

Can I use another brand?
The manual does not specify that you must use only Morphy Richards cleaning solution.
If choosing another brand, check that it:
- Is a standard carpet-cleaning solution intended for machine use.
- Does not produce excessive foam.
- Is suitable for your particular hard flooring.
- Provides clear dilution and dosing instructions.
A product being described as a “floor cleaner” does not automatically mean it is suitable for use inside the appliance. If its compatibility is unclear, check with the solution manufacturer before adding it to the tank.
How much cleaning solution should I add?
Follow the instructions on the solution bottle for the amount of water you are using. Concentrations vary between products, so there is no single dose that applies to every solution.
- Switch the cleaner off and remove the clean water tank.
- Fill with water as directed in the user manual. Do not use hot water.
- Measure the appropriate amount of cleaning solution.
- Close the tank cap securely and refit the tank until it clicks.
Do not exceed the tank’s capacity or pour undiluted detergent directly onto the roller.
What should I avoid?
Do not substitute machine-cleaning solution with:
- Washing-up liquid or other products that create excessive foam.
- Bleach, solvents or abrasive cleaners.
- Perfume, essential oils or scented additives.
- Homemade mixtures.
- A combination of different cleaning products.
Do not assume that disinfectants, steam-mop liquids or general household floor detergents are suitable for the appliance.
Can I use plain water?
Cleaning solution is optional in the manual’s filling instructions, so you can use plain water for light cleaning.
However, greasy or stubborn dirt may need a suitable cleaning solution. Always check that your flooring is suitable for wet cleaning.
What if there is too much foam?
Excessive foam can affect the cleaner’s operation.
If you notice a build-up of foam:
- Switch the cleaner off and disconnect it from the charger.
- Empty and rinse both water tanks.
- Clean any solution residue from the roller, cover and filters.
- Allow the sponge filter to dry fully before refitting.
- Refill the clean water tank with the correct mixture, or plain water while you check the solution’s suitability.
Do not keep adding water or another product to an unsuitable mixture.
What if the floor feels sticky or looks streaky?
Too much detergent can leave residue, although a dirty roller or excess water can also affect the finish.
Check the solution dose and clean the roller before your next use.
See our guide: My floor cleaner is leaving streaks or marks.
Does carpet-cleaning solution mean I can clean carpets?
No. The wording describes the type of solution permitted by the manual. Your MRX Complete Pro is a hard floor cleaner; adding carpet-cleaning solution does not make it a carpet washer.
See Which floor types can I clean? for surface guidance.
