If your Morphy Richards steam iron or steam generator has stopped producing steam, a few simple checks may help restore normal performance.
Common causes include a low water level, the appliance not being ready to steam, steam controls being switched off, or a build-up of mineral deposits.
Water requirements, controls and cleaning methods vary between models. Always follow your appliance’s user manual for the correct instructions.
1. Check the water tank
Make sure there is sufficient water in the tank. Refill following your model’s instructions and do not exceed the MAX mark.
If your appliance has a removable water tank, check that it is correctly fitted after refilling.
Always use the water type recommended in your user manual.
2. Allow the appliance to become ready
Your iron or steam generator needs time to heat up before steam is available. Check the ready light or indicator described in your manual.
- Steam irons with adjustable temperatures: steam may only be available within the range marked on the dial or specified in the manual.
- Steam generators: allow the appliance to complete its warm-up process and follow any instructions for starting steam after refilling.
- Cordless steam irons: return the iron to its base regularly to maintain the heat needed for steam.
Always follow the garment manufacturer’s care label. Do not increase the ironing temperature beyond what the garment permits just to obtain steam.
3. Check the steam settings
Make sure the steam control is not set to dry ironing or steam off.
Depending on your model, you may need to adjust a steam selector, choose a steam mode, or press a steam button or trigger.
Steam-boost functions may need time to recover between uses. Follow your manual rather than repeatedly pressing the button.
If your model’s automatic shut-off has activated, follow the instructions to reactivate it and allow it to become ready again.
4. Check whether cleaning is due
Mineral deposits can build up over time and reduce steam output. Check for any cleaning or descaling alerts and follow your model’s recommended maintenance routine.
Your appliance may have a self-clean function, descaling programme or anti-scale component. Use only the method specified in your user manual.
Do not add vinegar, descaling chemicals or other cleaning solutions unless your manual specifically instructs you to do so. Follow all cooling instructions before opening a boiler cap or removing an anti-scale component.
For general maintenance advice, see How to Clean and Descale Your Morphy Richards Iron or Steam Generator.
5. Check the water you use
There is no single water recommendation suitable for every Morphy Richards iron or steam generator.
Your model may specify tap water, a particular blend, or distilled, de-ionised or demineralised water. Always follow the water type and proportions stated in your own user manual.
Do not add scented ironing water, perfume, starch or other additives to the tank, as these can leave deposits and affect performance.
