(303250 & 303251)
Water dripping from your Morphy Richards Cordless Steam Iron is one of the most common customer issues. In most cases, this is not a fault — it usually happens because the iron hasn’t reached the correct temperature, is set too low for steam, or is not being used correctly on the power base.
Follow this guide to fix dripping and prevent it in the future.
💧 Common Causes of Water Dripping
-
Iron not fully heated
Cordless irons rely on the power base to maintain heat.
Starting to iron or use steam before the temperature light indicates the iron is ready can cause water to drip.
-
Temperature setting below steam level
-
Steam is only produced when the temperature dial is within the steam quadrant:
303250 & 303251: Typically 3-dot setting or above
Using the steam switch below this setting (1–2 dots / low heat) will not produce steam and may lead to dripping.
-
-
Not returning the iron to the base regularly
Heat drops when the iron is off the base.
If the iron is left off the base for too long, water may drip from the soleplate.
-
Overfilling the water tank
Filling above the MAX line can allow water to escape around the filler cap or down the soleplate.
-
Filler cap not fully closed
A loose or damaged filler cap can allow water to leak during use.
🔧 How to Fix Leaking or Dripping
-
Allow the iron to reach the correct temperature
Place the iron on the base until the temperature indicator light turns green (or cycles red/green twice on 303251).
Only begin ironing or using steam once fully heated.
-
Use the correct steam setting
Set the temperature dial to 3 dots or higher to activate steam.
Use MAX for vertical steaming or stubborn creases.
Avoid using steam on 1–2 dot settings.
-
Return the iron to the base frequently
During ironing, place the iron back on the base every few seconds to maintain heat.
This ensures proper steam generation and prevents dripping.
-
Check water level and filler cap
Fill only to the MAX line.
Ensure the cap is securely closed.
Replace the filler cap if damaged (Spare Complete Filler Cap Assembly for Cordless Iron for 303250 & 303251).
-
Use recommended water types only
Distilled, deionised, or demineralised water keeps the steam chamber clean.
Avoid tap water, battery fluid, or water with additives, which can worsen dripping.
💡 Tips to Prevent Future Drips
Start with cool fabrics and work up to higher heat — this prevents overusing steam on low settings.
Keep hard water or untreated water out of the iron to minimise internal build-up.
Empty the tank after each use and store the iron on its heel on the base.
