If your Morphy Richards Cordless Steam Iron is not heating up, has no lights, or isn’t getting hot enough, this is usually caused by power supply issues, base connection, temperature settings, or auto shut-off — not a fault with the iron.
Follow the steps below to restore heat and get ironing quickly.
🔌 Step 1: Check the Power Supply
Ensure the plug is fully inserted into the socket.
Try a different mains socket to rule out a faulty outlet.
Check the fuse in the plug and replace with the same rating if required.
Test the socket with another appliance to confirm it’s working.
⚠️ Common mistake: Using a partially inserted plug or a faulty socket often causes “no power” issues.
🔄 Step 2: Ensure the Iron is Correctly Seated on the Power Base
These cordless irons use a power base, not a battery-charging system.
Make sure the iron heel is fully aligned with the base connector.
The temperature indicator light should illuminate when correctly seated.
During ironing, the iron must be returned to the base every few seconds to maintain heat.
If the iron is left off the base for too long, it will cool down, reducing performance.
⚠️ Common mistake: Thinking the iron “charges” like a cordless battery device — heat must be topped up on the base.
⏱ Step 3: Check for Auto Shut-Off Activation
For safety and energy saving, the iron automatically enters auto shut-off after approximately 8 minutes on the base.
Signs of auto shut-off: flashing indicator light, reduced heat.
-
To reactivate:
Remove the iron from the base.
Replace it back onto the base.
Wait for the temperature indicator to turn green.
To fully switch off the appliance, unplug from the mains.
⚠️ Tip: Auto shut-off is normal and helps prevent water leakage and burns.
🌡 Step 4: Verify the Temperature Dial
Ensure the temperature dial is not set to MIN.
Match the heat setting to the fabric care label on your garment.
Allow the temperature indicator light to cycle red → green twice before starting to iron.
Steam will only activate on dot 3 or above.
⚠️ Common mistake: Beginning to iron before the indicator light cycles can make the iron seem “cold” or not heating.
